How to choose the right frames and beams?
Choosing the right pallet rack frame
- What is the space limit?
The first step in choosing the right pallet rack frame is to know the dimensions of the room. The height of the ceiling is the first starting point. For small layouts (huts and private garages), frames 8-12 feet high are the most commonly used sizes. This is the first piece of information you need to know, as the frame determines the height at which the item can be stored. - Are you using a pallet?
We don’t call it just pallet racking. In most cases, products are placed and stored on pallets and stored on pallet racks. But it’s not uncommon for people to do without a pallet. The standard GMA pallet is 40 inches wide and 48 inches deep. When using standard pallets, shelf manufacturers recommend a 42-inch deep frame. This allows for a 3-inch overhang on the front and back of the system. This helps the forklift driver place the pallets on both beams. - What weight capacity do you need?
Frame capacity can be tricky. We list weight capacity on all of our frames assuming 48” beam spacing. But what if you need to utilize spacing that`is different from the assumed 48 inches?
Choosing the right pallet rack beam
- How many pallets should be placed at the height of the pallet rack shelves?
For a standard pallet rack, an 8-foot beam is ideal for setting up two pallets per level. If you place 3 pallets at each level of racking, you will need 12 feet of joists. It is also advisable to measure the distance between the two frames to get the correct pallet rack beam length. - How much load capacity does the bar need?
You also need to ask the porter this question. The longer the strap, the more likely it is to sag if the weight distribution is not uniform. If you need an evenly distributed load and the capacity is not met, your system can fail. The higher the surface of the carrier, the greater the load capacity the carrier will carry. We stock specific lengths of different deck sizes to support different capacities. I also devoted the entire article to this topic.

Best pallet rack frames
The pallet rack frames provide a framework for building pallet racks to organize and store luggage and large containers loaded on pallets. Uprights attach to compatible brackets to create multi-level shelves. Standalone starter racks require two supports, and add-on extensions to existing racks require one support. Pallet racks allow you to take advantage of vertical space in warehouses, distribution centers, and other storage facilities to increase storage density. The vertical distance between the beams of the pallet rack affects the load capacity of the rack. As the vertical distance between the beams increases, the load capacity of the rack decreases.
Best pallet rack beams
Pallet rack beams are mainly connected in different ways. They feature uniquely shaped rivets designed to fit snugly into the corresponding slots in the stanchions, ensuring a secure connection between the beam and the frame.
The most popular type is the teardrop bar. The advantage of teardrop support is that it is durable and bolt-free. This means you don’t have to use nuts or bolts to install it securely. Instead, the teardrop design pushes the beam pin into the teardrop slot on the pallet stand, locking the beam well below the opening at the top of the slot and preventing it from sliding without pushing it up. Teardrop beams are also compatible with a variety of racking products and can be easily integrated into existing or new racks for quick and straightforward installation.
